Avast’s VPN launched as SecureLine in 2013 and was renamed Avast Premium VPN in 2026. It comes from Prague-based Avast, part of Gen Digital since 2022, and is sold on its own or inside the Avast One app, with 10 devices on one subscription.

Its list covers 74 countries, and Avast itself labels 8 of them as virtual, all in Asia and the Middle East. A proprietary protocol helps on networks that try to block VPNs, but no independent audit of the no-logs claim has been published.

Privacy track record

Documented incidents and legal tests. How a provider responded matters as much as what happened.

2020. An investigation by Motherboard and PCMag showed that Avast’s free antivirus collected users’ browsing data, which its subsidiary Jumpshot sold to other companies. Avast shut Jumpshot down within days.

2024. The US Federal Trade Commission ordered Avast to pay $16.5 million and banned it from selling browsing data for advertising. The FTC said Avast had sold the data while claiming its products would block online tracking.
