Proton VPN comes from the same team as Proton Mail. The company is based in Switzerland, and since 2024 the non-profit Proton Foundation has been the largest shareholder of Proton AG. Its apps are open source and its no-logs claim is audited every year.

The free plan has no data limit but works on one device, and the app picks a server in one of 10 countries for you. Paid plans unlock the full network and Secure Core, which sends your traffic through a server in Switzerland, Iceland or Sweden before it reaches the country you chose.
